Margaret Anne Miller of North Greenbush died January 14, 2014, at St. Peter’s Hospital, in Albany, N.Y., under the care of The Community Hospice. She was born on October 25, 1933, to Meinolf and Elizabeth Backus of Beadle Hill, N.Y., in Washington County. She grew up in Pittstown, N.Y., and graduated from Lansingbur­gh High School. She is survived by her husband, Karl,with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. She is also survived by her children, Annette Healy of Wynantskil­l, N.Y., Karl Miller of Plano, Texas, and Michael Miller of Hollis, N. H.; her two granddaugh­ters, Catherine and Caroline Miller, both of Hollis, N. H.; her brother, Herbert Backus of Pittstown, N.Y.; her sister, Renata Knapp of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a resident of North Greenbush and a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Troy. She had been active in various community organizati­ons during her life. She served as president of the North Greenbush Public Library. She led a Rensselaer County 4H club for many years. She was an accomplish­ed artist and member of Capitolers chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters. More recently, she participat­ed in the Crafty Ladies knitting circle at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Troy

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Margaret on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Troy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. At Margaret’s request, there are no calling hours. In order to remember Margaret in a special way, the family requests that contributi­ons in Margaret’s memory may be made to The food pantry at St. Joseph’s Church, 416 Third Street, Troy NY.
