TROY >> The Van Rensselaer Garden Club will be presenting its 59th Annual Holiday Greens Show over the next four days in the historic Hart-Cleutt House at 57 2nd St.

The theme of this year’s show will be decorations related to the Roaring Twenties. The show is open from noon to 5 p.m. daily from today through Sunday.

Guests can enjoy a local holiday tradition, as 12 rooms of the circa-1827 Federal-style house are transformed into a unique holiday display. About 35 Van Rensselaer Garden Club members worked on decorating the historic home with fresh trees, an abundance of flowers and lush greens.

“Guests can walk around the house and see decorations in each room related to our theme and also enjoy seeing tons of fresh greens throughout the house,” said Karin Krasevac-Lenz, executive director of Rensselaer County Historical Society.

Past shows have been very popular, Krasevac-Lenz said, and she expects no difference this year.

“It’s a tradition for some families that extends over three generations,” she said.

People who attend the show are not rushed, since they are welcome to go on self-guided tours for however long as they like, “so that if you fall in love with the Christmas tree in the main room, you can go back and see that same tree as much as you would like to,” Krasevac-Lenz explained.

The show usually draws visitors from throughout the region, with Krasevac-Lenz estimating a couple thousand people will walk through over the four days.

The event showcases many different greens, such as boxwood, holly and fiji, and all are fresh, blought or gorwn personally for the show.

Admissions is $10, $6 for seniors and $5 for children ages 5 and older.

“I think that it is a wonderful community gathering to kick off the holiday season,” Krasevac-Lenz said.
