Traffic stop yields arrest

TROY >> A city man was arrested and state police are looking for three other men who fled after a traffic stop early Monday.

Troopers said Michael A. Rivas, 30, was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a vehicle and traffic violation in the vicinity of Eagle and 15th streets. The driver and three passengers fled on foot, troopers said, with Rivas apprehende­d following a brief foot pursuit that also involved Troy police and Rensselaer County sheriff’s deputies.

Troopers said Rivas was in possession of ketamine and marijuana and that during the foot pursuit, he tossed a loaded handgun in a private driveway.

Rivas was charged with felony counts of secondand third- degree criminal possession of a weapon, fifth- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourthdegr­ee criminal possession of stolen property, as well as unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was arraigned in Brunswick Town Court and sent to the Rensselaer County jail pending a future appearance in Troy City Court.

The other three occupants of the vehicle have yet to be identified, troopers said, and anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact the Brunswick state police barracks at 279- 4427.
