TROY >> City police are investigating reports of shots fired Saturday afternoon in the city’s Lansingburgh neighborhood.

Police spokesman Capt. Daniel DeWolf said officers responded to several calls reporting a fight in the area of 5th Avenue and 109th Street in which one person pulled a handgun and fired several shots. DeWolf said a parked vehicle was hit by gunfire, but no people were hit.

DeWolf said investigators followed up on reports of a vehicle that was reportedly involved in the incident. The vehicle was found abandoned a few blocks away, he said, and was impounded for further investigation.

Detectives are investigating the case, DeWolf said, and preliminary information indicates the

incident was not a random act.

DeWolf said detectives are looking into any possible connection to a Wednesday afternoon incident on 10th Street near Oakwood Avenue in which a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg, but are skeptical of any relationship.

In that case, officers responded to a report of shots fired about 2:30 p.m., but the victim had already been taken by private vehicle to Albany Medical Center, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening wound. Police are still investigating that incident, as well.

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call city police detectives at 270-4426.
