Edwin C. Jones

ROSWELL, GA - Edwin Corning Jones, 98, of Roswell, GA died February 11, 2016. He was married to the late Gethsemane Pas-kalides Jones for more than 66 years. Born in Green Is-land to Marie Broadhurst Jones of Manchester, Eng-land and Willard L. Jones, he was a long-time resi-dent of Troy and NY. Married in 1942, Mr. Jones enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and services as an instructor in Bremerton and Seattle, Washington prior to deployment to the Asia Pacific theater aboard the USS Ticonderoga 14 serving in the Battle of Okinawa. He was aboard ship in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the treaty to end WWII. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserves until 1962. From 1958 un til retirement in 1989 Mr. Jones worked for the State of NY, initially with Civil Defense and later with the Department of Health. He and his wife retired to Clearwater, Florida and later to Atlanta, Georgia.

He is survived by his daughters, Carole Jones Maso (Gene) of Roswell, GA and Irene Jones Hewey (Robin) of So. Windsor, CT. He was the grandfather of Christophe Maso Kather-ine) of New York City, Bri-an Maso (Ciaran) of Ladera Ranch, CA, Holly Maso (Diego Aguirre) of Oki-wana, Japan, Corey Maso (Megan) of Lorton, VA, and Sarah Hewey Leonard (Aaron) of South Wind sor, CT, Matthew Hewey (Karen) of Vernon, CT, Ryan Hewey of Vernon, CT, and Allison Hewey Scully (Steve) of Medford, MA. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service and Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at a date to be announced. Condolence cards may be sent to 925 Brooksglen Drive, Roswell, GA 30075.
