Emerald City to rock Powers Park
Band to perform on Neil Kelleher stage Saturday night
TROY >> Emerald City makes its way back to the Neil Kelleher stage Saturday night for another showcase performance in historic Powers Park.
The group re-formed six years ago after a 30-year hiatus, reclaiming their status as the Capital Region’s top classic rock ensemble. Collectively and individually, band members have played or shared the stage with rock legends including B.B. King, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Badfinger, Southside Johnny & the Ashbury Jukes, The Hollies, Aretha Franklin, Dickie Betts, Dan Toller, Little Feat and John Hall.
Emerald City features the threeheaded guitar tandem of Dave Costa, Gary Tash and Joe Mele, with Rick Rourke handling vocals and saxophone, Ed Powers on vocals and bass, bluesman Gary Brooks on keyboards and vocals and Chris Garebedian on percussion. Together, they cover a wide range of artists, including the Beatles, Joe Cocker, Little Feat, the Allman Brothers, Derek and the Dominoes and Dave Mason. Their showmanship, unmatched guitar work and spot-on, four-part harmonies set the group apart from others. “We’re still having a ball playing together and hope that our fans will come out in force to Powers Park this week,” said guitarist Dave Costa.
The show kicks off at 6 p.m., with food and non-alcoholic beverages available. Visitors are advised to bring a lawn chair and leave pets at home. Powers Park Concerts are presented by the city of Troy, and WVCR 88.3-FM (The Saint) and supported by the Whitney Young Troy Health Center, Wellcare, Snowman Ice Cream, Warren W. Fane Inc., Beverage Barn, Lansing Laundry, Collar City Masonry, Perfection Painting, Advanced Auto Parts, the Tri-City ValleyCats and the Friends of 112th Street. Media sponsorship is provided by The Record and WVCR.
