CORNED BEEF & CABBAGE: The Presbyterian United Church, by the bridge in Schaghticoke, will be offering a Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner on St. Patrick’s Day, Friday, March 17, from 5:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. The dinner will include corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, rolls and cake. EVERETT WAGAR SENIOR CENTER: Rensselaer County’s Everett Wagar Senior Center, 2 Roxborough Road in Grafton, holds the Nutrition Department’s monthly special dinner at noon. This month’s theme will be “St Patrick’s Day”, with Corned Beef, Baby Red Potatoes, Shredded Cabbage w/ Carrot Garnich, Pumpernickel Bread, and a St. Patrick’s Day dessert served at noon. NORTH COUNTRY ARTS: The public is invited to attend an opening reception at North Country Arts’ NCA at the Shirt Factory, 71 Lawrence St., Suite 114, Glens Falls, for the spring exhibition, “Memories”, featuring works in all media by local and regional artists. STORY DINNER: This month’s speaker at Gileand Lutheran Church will be Lee VanAppledorn. Her topic is the Children’s South End after School Program in Albany. We could all benefit from this topic in hopes that it could be put to use in the Troy area. Eleanor Bode will be sharing a story about a well-known hymn by Fanny Crosby and will be accompanied by Darlene Shanahan. In honor of St Patrick’s Day, there will be a nice corned beef dinner with potatoes and carrots, as well as beef stew. Reservations are suggested but not required. Gilead is located at the corner of Route 7 and 278 in Center Brunswick and is handicapped accessible.

HOOSICAL FURNISHINGS ART AUCTION: Hoosick Falls’ creative spirit and talents will be on full display at HAYC3′s (Hoosick Armory, Youth Center, and Community Coalition) 8th annual Hoosical Furnishings Art Auction on Saturday, March 18, at the HAYC3 Armory located at 80 Church Street, Hoosick Falls. Featuring a live auction of one-of-a-kind fountains crafted by local artists, the event highlights civic pride and the creative spirit of community members while raising muchneeded funds for HAYC3′s mission of economic development through art, culture, education and health. The auction begins at 6:30 p.m. with a preview. The live auction will commence at 7 p.m. Light refreshments and a cash bar will also be available at this 21-and-over event. PUBLIC ASTRONOMY PROGRAM: Public astronomy programs are held the third Saturday of each month at the Henry Hudson Planetarium, located at the Albany Heritage Area Visitors’ Center. 11 a.m., Childrens’ Star Sighting. Interactive program exploring the stars, planets, comets and constellations in the night sky. Geared to children ages 3-7 and their families. 1 p.m., Albany Star Sighting. SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR: One hundred and sixty area middle and high school students from the Greater Capital Region will participate in the 27th Annual Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair on Saturday, March 18, in the Walker Laboratories and Sage Hall at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy. The student projects will also be available for public viewing from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Beginning at 4:15 p.m., the keynote speaker, Dr. Laura Kramer from the New York State Health Department will speak about the research on the Zika virus in the Darrin Communication Center, Room 308 on the RPI campus. SINGING FOR SUFFRAGE: Old Songs, Inc. presents “NY Women: Singing for Suffrage” at 2 p.m. at the New York State Museum. With enlightening narrative and songs that women sang during the suffrage movement between 1848 and 1920, this dynamic concert tells the story of how American women won the right to vote. The 50-minute performance has a cast of professional musicians and singers and features music on fiddle, hammered dulcimer, piano and guitar. This performance was made possible by the Friends of the New York State Library, The Archives Partnership Trust, and the New York State Museum.
THACHER NATURE CENTER: “Drawing Animals” Artistic Workshop, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. As a natural science illustrator, Meg Sodano creates images of animals and their environments for exhibits and books. Using a variety of animal specimens as models, Meg will demonstrate drawing techniques and observational approaches, then guide participants in their own drawings. Learn about animal anatomy and how to render form, structure, and function. Appropriate for ages 16 and up, all skill levels are welcome. THROWBACK DISCO PARTY: Get ready to disco down, do the Lindy and maybe even Boogaloo at the HAYC3 Throwback Dance Party in Hoosick Falls on Saturday, March 18, at 8 p.m. Featuring music from the 50’s through the 90’s, the Throwback Dance will let you relive some of your best dance moves and worst fashion choices from your past all in one evening.
