Man dies after Troy shooting
Victim shot near Jefferson and Hill streets, later died at Albany Med
TROY, N.Y. >> A man died Thursday after he was shot while getting into a taxi just west of Prospect Park.
City police spokesman Capt. Daniel DeWolf said the victim had just walked out of a house on 6th Avenue and was about to climb into a Capitaland Taxi cab about 9:10 a.m. when he was shot near the intersection of Jefferson and Hill streets and 6th Avenue. Two black men with facial hair and wearing dark clothing reportedly approached the man as he got into the cab, and an argument ensued before shots rang out.
A woman who lives a few doors up 6th Avenue and did not want her name used said she heard five gunshots but did not see the shooting. DeWolf said, however, the whole incident was captured on several surveillance cameras in the area, and detectives are asking anyone else in
the area who may have witnessed or recorded the incident to contact them at 270- 4426.
Responding of f icers found the victim in the back seat of the cab with life- threatening injuries. He was rushed to Albany Medical Center, where he underwent surgery but later died. Police are not identifying the victim while they try to contact family.
The cab driver was not injured.
Detectives and evidence technicians scoured the area around the cab as it sat in the middle of the street in front of 1042 6th Ave. with both rear doors open.
Meanwhile, Troy City School District officials implemented what they referred to as a “lockin” at School 12, which is about a mile from the shooting. No one was allowed to enter the building until police declared it safe.
