Young cast set to perform ‘Into the Woods’ at Park Playhouse
COHOES, N.Y.>> A young, local cast will present Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods at a series of upcoming performances.
Park Playhouse is proud to open the second show in its first year-round residency at the Cohoes Music Hall with this youth production, with performances from Friday, March 31 through Sunday, April 9.
The Into the Woods cast is comprised of 15 Park Playhouse II students said to be some of the finest talent that the Capital Region has to offer.
Performers ranges in age from 13 to 18 years old, and together they tackle Sondheim’s complex score.
James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a time- less, yet relevant, piece, considered a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching for audiences. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
Performances will take place at 8 p.m. on March 31, April 1, 7 and 8, along with 2 p.m matinees on April 1, 2 8 and 9 at the historic Cohoes Music Hall.
General admission tickets are $25 for adults or $15 for children.
