TROY - John D. Finelli, 88, of Troy, passed into eternal rest peacefully on Tuesday evening March 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving and devoted family while at his home.

John was born and raised in Troy and was the son of the late Carmine and Maria Finelli.

John was employed for over 40 years at the John A. Manning Paper Company in Green Island and Lydall Performanc­e Materials. He operated the company food service for many years and later became a machine operator. He served our country as a Military Policeman in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Rebuilding and Occupation Period , after WWII and before the Korean Conflict.

John was a member of The Troy Elks, a life long member The ICC in Troy,y, a member of The Emerald Athletic club, the VFW of Watervliet, former board member of the Troy CYO and a member of the Pawling Avenue Seniors. John was a communican­t of the former St. Mary’s Church. John was always very active and on the go. Aside from his daily stops having coffee with his friends or working as Office Man-M ager for his sons, Family time was definitely the most cherished of all. John could often be found at a youth athletic venue following one of many grandchild­ren around all the sporting seasons of the year. All events involving family held a special place in John’s Heart.

John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years Mary Agostine Finelli of Troy.

John is also survived by his three daughters, Karen (Charles JR) Casale, Barbara Finelli and Deborah (David) Reo; his sons, John (Lynda) Finelli and Mark (Kelly) Finelli; brother of Philomena (late Edward) Mangione, Patricia Finelli, Sr., Carmel Finelli, Sister of the Atonement Graymor NY, and the late Frances (Lozette) Marchese, Frank (Betty) Finelli, Anthony (Mildred) Finelli and Sam Finelli, Louise (Dominick) Donato, Stella (Carman) Bizzarro and Antoinette (Guerin) Catallo. John is also survived by his in –laws Kathy (Anthony Abrunza), Jean Holmes, Elaine Agostine, and was pre-deceased by his brothers-in-law Fran Agostine and David Holmes. He is also survived by his grandchild­ren Michael (Emily) Casale, Kristina (Brian) Gross, Anthony (Amanda) Casale, Annie ( William) Macaluso, Dominica Bevevino, Gregory Reo, David Reo, John Finelli Jr., Joseph Finelli, James Finelli, Franchesca Finelli and Mark Finelli Jr. John is also survived by his great grandchild­ren Brianna Gross, Charlie Casale, Brison Gross, Giovanna Casale, Lincoln Macaluso and Brayden Macaluso. John is also survived many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the many care givers who worked tirelessly round the clock to insure John’s comfort prior to his passing .

The funeral service for John will be held on Monday morning at 8:30 AM from The Bocketti Funeral Home, 336 Third St., Troy and at 9:30 AM from St. Jude The Apostle Church in Wynantskil­l where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-5 PM.

Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy.
