Area school budgets all approved
School budget proposals through the area met with little opposition Tuesday night, as voters unanimously gave their approval to spend plans for the 201718 school year.
Voters throughout the area also supported every proposition on the ballot in area school districts, including a plan in Cohoes to begin using CDTA bus service to transport stduents in grades 6-12 to school and the establishment in Troy of a capital reserve fund to allow the district to set aside money for future building and equipment needs.
In the Troy City School District, voters easily approved a proposed $112 million dollar budget by a count of 505-132. The budget includes a property tax increase of 0.45 percent, right at the cap set by state law.
“This year’s budget development process was much more difficult than in previous years, but we got the job done and have once again delivered a plan that will help our children succeed without overburdening the taxpayer,” dis- trict Superintendent John Carmello said in a district statement.
Across the river in Cohoes, district residents voted 376-274 in favor of a $41.8 million budget proposal that carries a 1.62 percent tax levy increase, while in Watervliet, voters OKd a $26.7 spending package by a count of 277-75.
