Softball finals postponed to today

MALTA, N.Y. » All Section II softball semifinals scheduled for Friday were postponed to the Saturday.

Section officials noted the desire to have the best conditions possible for the championsh­ips.

The times and locations for all five games remain the same: Ballston Spa vs. Shaker, Class AA final at Malta Luther Forest field 3: 5p.m. Averill Park vs. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Class A final at Malta Luther Forest field 1: 5p.m. Cohoes vs. Ichabod Crane, Class B final at Malta Luther Forest field 2: 5p.m. Greenville vs. Lake George, Class C final at Moreau Rec: 5p.m. Salem vs. Fort Ann, Class D final at Moreau Rec: 5p.m.

WASAREN LEAGUE ALL- STARS » Rachel Hall, a senior pitcher for league- champion Greenwich, was named the MVP of the 2017 Wasaren League softball season. Witches teammate Sabrina Whitehouse earned a selection to the Section II all-star team along with Hoosic Valley’s Camille Coyne and Mechanicvi­lle’s Madison Harrington.

Boys lacrosse

CAMBRIDGE 15, SCHUYLERVI­LLE 7 » Maxwell Hoffer scored two goals and added two assists and teammates Zack Rowland, Jonas Butz

and Jamie Olvera recorded hat tricks as Cambridge advanced to the Class D final. Justin Carte had a hat trick and two assists for the Black Horses while Tyler Bown, Andrew Phillips, Brandon Craft and Mike Barcia each tallied goals.

Track and field

SECTION II GROUP 4 >> Greenwich won the girls Group 4 championsh­ips 95-76.5 over Fonda- Fultonvill­e. Hoosic Valley, Canajohari­e and Voorheesvi­lle rounded out the top five finishers in the girls standings. Canajohari­e topped Rensselaer for the boys championsh­ip 112-72. Voorheesvi­lle took third followed by Hoosic Valley and Watervliet.

College field hockey

SAGE HIRES MCDONALD AS 1ST FIELD HOCKEY COACH >> The Sage Colleges has selected Gillian McDonald as the inaugural head coach of the Gators’ new field hockey program. McDonald will coach her first game for Sage in the fall of 2018 when the team competes as a member of the Empire 8. McDonald arrives at Sage having spent the last 12 years as the head field hockey coach at Hamilton College.

This past fall her team went 12-5 with an impres- sive 7-3 record in the highly competitiv­e New England Small Colleges Athletic Conference (NESCAC), where the team advanced to the semifinals of the league’s tournament before falling to No. 4 nationally ranked Middlebury College.

The Hudson, Quebec native received her bachelor’s degree in 2004 and earned her master’s from SUNY Cortland. She attended the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass.
