Jacobson-Schulte, Brown to lead Troy High Class of 2017
TROY, N.Y. >> The Troy City School District has selected Finnian Jacobson-Schulte as valedictorian and Madeline Brown as salutatorian for the Class of 2017.
Finnian earned the distinction of valedictorian with a grade-point average of 99.35, while Brown posted a GPA of 98.53. They will lead the class at its commencement exercise at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25 at Hudson Valley Community College.
Finnian, the son of Marah and Patrick Jacobson-Schulte, participates in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, for which only the top high school seniors are selected. Finnian also participated in two research internships at the University at Albany Cancer Research Center and another at RPI involving chemical engineering research.
Outside the classroom, Finnian is a member and captain of the boys varsity cross country and indoor and outdoor track teams. He is also a member of Mensa International, the National Honor Society, the New York State Math Honor Society, Student Council and Junior/Senior Board. He was the pianist for the Jazz Band and has many awards and recognitions for his piano skills, including a Level 6 “Perfect Scorer” from New York State School Music Association.
Finnian has earned college credits from RPI and Hudson Valley Community College and will atten the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall.
Madelin, meanwhile, is the daughter of Christianne and Dana Brown and has served as vice president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Math Honor Society. She was captain of the girls varsity basketball team and a member of the varsity volleyball and track teams and received the Troy High School Athletic Director Award during her junior year and the Girls’ Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award in 2016.
Madelin also participated in Marching Band, Stand Band and Concert Band and is a member of French Club, ROY G BIV, W.A.V.E. and the Peer Leadership program.
She will graduate with 27 college credits from Hudson Valley Community College and the University at Albany and will attend Cornell University in the fall.
