BRUNSWICK - Elmer Film, Jr., 83, died Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Southern Vermont Medical Center, Bennington, VT surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Elmer Film, Sr. and Mae C. Hook Film and husband of Hildegard R. Frank Film. He resided in Brunswick all his life. He was a graduate of George Washington School (then a one room school house), Troy High, and attended St. Bonaventur­e University in Bradford, PA.

Elmer was a stock broker for 52 years, retiring in 20082008 from Janney Mont-Mont gomery Scott in Albany. At one time, he was head of Security at Emma Willard School.

In 1956 he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany at the finance office for USAREUR. While there, he took every possible opportunit­y to travel Europe. In Germany, he met & fell in love with Hildegard. In 1959, they were married, and have enjoyed 58 years together.

Elmer was an avid country music fan, Boston Red Sox fan, loved family camping, and enjoyed golfing. He was a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed home and family, and was his family security blanket. Whenever anything was needed, Papa was there. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Richard M. (Nora) Film, Brunswick; and Scott M. (Diane) Film, Brunswick; a daughter, Kimberly A. (Ted) Valenti, East Greenbush; two sisters, Carol Lawless, Brunswick and Marlene (Emery) Maddocks, Poestenkil­l; two brothers, Anson (Rose) Film, Brunswick and Gary (Terry) Film, Brunswick; six grandchild­ren, Tara, Kristina, Aaron and Jacob Film and Tyler and Justine Valenti, and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the Vermont Veterans’ Home and Southern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington for their care and compassion.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, at 10 AM at the funeral home with Rev. David Martin, officiatin­g.

Interment will be in Eagle Mills Cemetery, Eagle Mills.
