MARYLAND’S RAMBO TOPS FIELDS FOR TEWAARATON » UAlbany rising junior Connor Fields was a men’s finalist for the 2017 Tewaaraton tophy given to the top player in the nation, along with Trevor Baptiste of Denver, Matt Rambo of Maryland, Ben Reeves of Yale and Pat Spencer of Loyola. Rambo was the recipient of the 2017 Tewaaraton at a ceremony held at the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonia­n.

Fields was a Tewaaraton Trophy finalist for the first time in his career, being selected as one of the five on May 11th. He is the fourth UAlbany player to be a Tewaaraton finalist, along with Lyle Thompson, Miles Thompson and Frank Resetarits. Both Thompson

brothers won the award.

UAlbany director of athletics Mark Benson, the UAlbany men’s lacrosse coaching staff and members of the Fields family were present at the ceremony in support of Connor Fields.

Judo

BUFFALO, N.Y.. » Athletes from the Jason Morris Judo Center in Glenville, won 10 medals over the holiday weekend including six gold at the 45th Annual Am Can Internatio­nal Judo Challenge.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake high school freshman, Alexa Michaelson (14) led the way winning gold medals in the 13-14 year-olds 57 kilogram weight class and the 15-16 57kg division. Alexa’s brother, sophomore Tyler Michaelson was also a double medalist winning a gold in the 66kg under-18

category and then picked up a silver in the 66kg under-21 division.

Nate Torres turned in his best performanc­e to date winning a gold medal in the 81kg under-21 category then captured a silver in the senior mens brown belt 81kg weight class. Burnt Hills senior, Quentin Cook (18) dominated the mens 66kg division going 4-0 to claim the title. Cook’s classmate, senior Russian Izerkin (17) also took a gold in the 73kg under21 category.

Nicole Stout continued to improve as she went 4-0 to capture a gold in the women’s 78kg weight class. Will Chery closed out the JMJC medal count by winning a gold in the mens 90kg category. Burnt Hills senior, Mitch Paltiel (17) just missed the podium in the mens 81kg division as he placed fifth.
