Cohoes beats Ogdensburg­h, moves on to semifinals

Cohoes managed to keep on winning, scoring nine runs and taking the win over Ogdensburg­h 9-4.

Niether team was strong in the field, with Cohoes making three errors and Ogdensburg­h making five, making the game be decided by hitting.

Isabelle DeChiaro started on the mound for the Tigers, throwing seven innings of two run ball, giving up two hits, while striking out 13 and walking two. DeChiaro also had a strong day at the plate getting two double, while going 2-3.

Cohoes also had strong performanc­es from Lily Sencer go 3-4 with two singles and a double and Jordan Brown, who went 2-for-4 with a single, a double and three RBIs.

Ogdensburg­h had Callee Zulauf be there top performer on the mound and at the plate. She went 2-for-3 with two triples and two RBIs, while giving up the seven runs, on 11 hits, while getting

no strikeouts and walking two.

Cohoes now advances to the Class B semifinals.

Averill Park started strong, but was unable to finish and dropped the quarterfin­al contest against Jamesville­Dewitt 3-2.

Averill park got off to a early lead scoring in the first inning after Kelsey Mohl hit an RBI single that scored Kat Stackrow and would keep Jamesville­Dewitt off the board in the first inning as well as the second, where Averill Park managed another run.

Averill Park managed to get another run on the board after Morgan VanDevoort knocked in Marissa Nagel, getting them out to an early 2-0 lead.

Jamesville-Dewitt fought back in the third and fifth innings, scoring one in the third and two in the fifth, to push the team ahead 3-2 heading into the sixth inning and hold on to that lead heading into the top of the seventh with Averill Park having three chances to get back in the contest.

It just wasn’t meant to be.

Averill Park dropped the matchup 3-2 to Jamesville-Dewitt, ending their season.

Glens Falls, N.Y. >> The Glens Falls Dragons picked up the win in their home opener, defeating the Albany Dutchmen 6-2.

Pitcher Alex Phillips started the game off for the Dragons, going six innings, giving up five hits, two runs while walking four and striking out eight.

The Dutchmen started the scoring with an RBI single by Chase Allen early in the first inning, followed by an RBI triple from teammate Brandt Holland. The Dragons fought back to tie the game 2-2 going into the second.

Dutchmen pitcher Greg Marino, who lasted only three innings, giving up five hits, three earned runs, four unearned runs, while walking three and striking out four, pitched a strong second, but was roughed up throughout the night.

Late in the third, Dragons’ Ryan Beamish, tallied an RBI single after capitalizi­ng on a Dutchmen error, allowing Dan Lowndes to cross the plate. Phoenix Hernandez notched an RBI to drive Beamish himself to score, giving the Dragons the lead at 4-2.

The score remained untouched until late in the sixth, when Glens Falls Dragon Anthony Vaglica launched a 2-run homerun out behind the leftfield wall.

Dragons’ Tom Taplin took control of the pitchers mound for the seventh and eighth innings, followed by PJ Strahm who threw in the ninth. Both pitchers left the Dutchmen scoreless, bringing the game to a close with a final score of 6-2 Dragons.

Phillips earned the win on the bump to go to 1-0. Marino (0-1) took the loss.

The Glens Falls Dragons (1-1) turn their sights towards Amsterdam, where they are set to take on the Mohawks Saturday night.
