FESTIVAL CELEBRATIO­N CHOIR: The Festival Celebratio­n Choir, an ecumenical choral ensemble in the Capitol District, will present its spring concert, “Many Gifts, One Spirit,” June 4, at 4 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 181 Western Avenue, Albany. The concert features the regional premiere of John Rutter’s ‘The Gift of Life’, a six-movement choral celebratio­n of the living earth and its creation. Tickets are $18. GREENBUSH HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Greenbush Historical Society welcomes Bobbie Reno, East Greenbush Town Historian, who will be discussing Edmonia Lewis at the Sunday, June 4 meeting. Edmonia was born in 1844 to a Chippewa mother and an African American father. She lived in East Greenbush and was raised by the Chippewa when she was orphaned at the age of five. Race and gender presented many obstacles, but Edmonia overcame them to become the first profession­al African American sculptor. She spent much of her profession­al career in Rome, Italy and was internatio­nally renowned. The meeting starts at 2 p.m. at the East Greenbush Library. HEADLOCKS ON THE HUDSON: An annual event by downtown’s Undergroun­d Athletics, Headlocks on the Hudson is a Freestyle and Greco Roman Wrestling tournament taking place on the Hudson River in Troy. WRITING WORKSHOP: The Troy Public Library is hosting a series of writing workshops with Amy Halloran. Come spend an afternoon and/or morning reading and writing about dramatic moments in Troy’s history. We will consider how change happens, and how Trojans of different eras responded to challenges like slavery, suffrage and poor working conditions. No experience necessary, just bring your curiosity. Reading materials will be available prior to class. Come to the June 4 class from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the June 17 class from 10 a.m. to noon, or both. ST. ANN’S CHURCH TOUR: St Ann’s Church is a designated state historic site which has been preserved and is now the home to the Maronite Catholic Community. The Maronite rite originated in Antioch shortly after Christ’s death and resurrecti­on and it is one of the sacred rites of the Roman Catholic Church since that time. In conjunctio­n with the Annual Lebanese Food Festival, those interested are invited to learn about St. Ann’s interestin­g history during a tour and lecture at 2 p.m. at 1919 Third Avenue, Watervliet.

VETERANS HALL OPEN HOUSE: Veterans Hall Honors All Veterans Past and Present, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This building is located on the Schaghtico­ke Fairground­s and is comprised of a group of volunteers who feel passionate about this exhibit. Everyone knows and loves a veteran and many come to share that connection. Some come to see a picture, a clipping or perhaps an item donated by family or a friend of a veteran that served our country. Veterans Hall is compiling a list of veteran’s names from Rensselaer, Saratoga, Albany, Washington, and surroundin­g counties. Getting your veteran’s name on the list is free, easy and a good way to ensure his/her service will be remembered. COHOES ARTIST SHOWCASE: On June 10 – 11, at the Cohoes Music Hall hosts the 7th annual Cohoes Artist Showcase (CAS VII). Hours are Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 11, from noon – 5 p.m. Karen Woodin is the featured artist. Over 30 artists in multiple media will be participat­ing. Choose Cohoes for Art is an all-volunteer group of artists and art lovers who work together to bring art to the public. The Showcase is free and open to the public. GRANT COTTAGE: ”She Called Him Raymond, A True Story of Love, Loss, Faith and Healing,” 1 p.m. A letter penned in 1944 uncovers the powerful and heartfelt story of Helen Gregg, one of eight children of Irish immigrant parents, raised in the miseries of Hell’s Kitchen during the Great Depression, and Clarence Raymond Stephenson, a young aspiring B-17 pilot from the small, struggling city of Ironton, Ohio. Their captivatin­g and poignant story will be explored by author Ray O’Conor in a program in the Grant Cottage Visitor Center, 100 Mt. McGregor Road, Wilton. The suggested donation for programs is $5 per person.

HUDSON CROSSING TRIATHLON: The eighth Hudson Crossing Triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, June 11, at Hudson Crossing Park in Saratoga County. Sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the race includes a 500-yard swim, 12-mile bike ride and 5K run, starting at 8 a.m. The event is free for spectators; cost for racers varies depending on date registered.
