TROY, N.Y. » A city man was arrested late Friday for allegedly stabbing a person to death earlier this month.

City police Capt. Daniel DeWolf said the department arrested Anthony M. Rickett, 51, of Troy, as the perpetrator in the stabbing death of Leonard Ellis.

Officials from the Rensselaer County Jail said Rickett appeared in City Court on Saturday morning and was sent back to the county jail without bail. Rickett is being charged with second-degree murder, firstdegree burglary and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Troy police responded to 115 Oakwood Ave. on the evening of July 11 and found Ellis lying on the floor bleeding. Reports said Ellis sustained stab wounds to his upper torso and ended up dying a few days later at Albany Medical Center.

Police said information was given to detectives that led to the arrest of Rickett.

DeWolf said the capture involved the efforts of the Gun Involved Violence Elimination detail, detectives, the patrol division and the emergency responders.

Police said officers located Rickett in a house in the area of 117th street and 3rd Avenue, and Rickett would not surrender at that time. The Troy ERT was called in to secure the house and assist in the capture.

After several hours, police said, Rickett eventually gave up and was taken into custody.
