Sidewalk work resumes
TROY, N.Y. » Phase two of the Lansingburgh Neighborhood Reinvestment Project kicked off Thursday as city crews began work to rebuild sidewalks and curbs along 2nd Avenue.
Workwill initially proceed south along the east side of 2nd Avenue, with the overall project to include work on both sides of 2nd Avenue between 111th and 114th streets and may include portions of adjacent side streets, according to a city news release. The project is expected to continue through October and is funded by a grant from the federal CommunityDevelopment Community Development Block Grant program to repair city sidewalks and curbs in targeted neighborhoods.
“The federal assistance made available for community improvement efforts like the Lansingburgh Neighborhood Reinvestment Project provides the city additional capacity to conduct needed repair work in our neighborhoods, improve mobility for Troy residents of all ages and abilities and enhance the quality of life in our community,” Mayor Patrick Madden said in a news release. “We are asking for patience from our residents and business owners while this rehabilitation effort is underway.”
In addition to curb and sidewalk reconstruction, work may also include tree trimming and planting, utility work, installation of new streetlight foundations and conduits, catch basin and drainage repairs and other related work. This is the second year of streetscape im- provements in the Lansingburgh neighborhood, as specified in the city’s 5-Year Consolidated Plan. Phase one of the project was conducted in 2016 along 5th Avenue from 110th to 114th streets.
Motorists are asked to observe all posted traffic restrictions, reduce speeds in the work zone and watch for flaggers and equipment operating in street right of way areas. Pedestrians will be directed to use sidewalks on the west side of 2ndAvenue during construction.
