The Record (Troy, NY)

J.J. Matijevic — OF, Tri- City ValleyCats

-

Gridley, 22, is having a pretty good season for the first-place Lake Monsters. He’s hitting .268 with 17 RBIs. Gridley was one of the best hitters in the SEC at Mississippi State, where he hit six home runs this season. Gridley was drafted in the 11th round by the Oakland A’s.

Garrett Benge — Third baseman, Lowell Spinners

Deichmann, 22, was a second round pick from LSU this season from Oakland. He’s hitting .315 with three homers and 15 RBIs. Right now he has eight hits in his last 10 games, and also has three triples on the year.

Matijevic, 21, was actually the pick that Houston got from St. Louis in the hacking scandal. And so far that pick is paying off. Matijevic is batting .253 with four homers and 23 RBIs for the Gatos after getting drafted out of Arizona this season.

Andy Pineda — OF, Tri- City ValleyCats

York, 21, is having a ridiculous season for the Rays Single-A affiliate. He has a 0.82 ERA and hasn’t allowed a run over his last five starts, since July 5. He was picked in the fifth round last season and struggled as a rookie, allowed 16 runs over 9.1 innings last year.

Reggie Johnson — P, Tri- City ValleyCats

Johnson, 23, is having a breakout time in Troy. He has pitched 12 games with the ValleyCats and has a 1.68 ERA with 28 strikeouts and four walks in 21.1 innings. This is after allowing 10 runs in nine innings at Quad Cities earlier in the season.

South All-Star Team

Moesquit, 22, is batting .279 with a homer and 14 RBIs on the season. He walks a ton, and has shown consistent improvement having been with the Ironbirds in each of his first three professional seasons.

Mason McCoy — Shortstop, Aberdeen Ironbirds

McCoy, 22, has a .417 on base percentage in his first season in the Orioles’ organization out of Iowa. He rarely strikes out, has 21 walks, and even hit his first professional home run this season. He also has four stolen bases to add to the arsenal of his abilities.

Yariel Gonzalez — Third baseman, State College Spikes

This spot would have been held by Evan Mendoza, who had a .430 onbase percentage. But he was promoted to Peoria the other day. But Gonzalez, 23, has had a great season in his own right. He’s hitting .309 with two homers and 23 RBIs.

Deon Stafford — Catcher, West Virginia Black Bears

Breazeale, 22, comes to the Orioles organization after a big campaign with Wake Forest. He was drafted in the seventh round and already has three homers and 27 RBIs in 43 games. He’s hitting .353 to top it all off.

Oscar Gonzalez — OF, Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Gonzalez, 19, is looking like a top prospect. He’s already hit two home runs and is batting .302. He has 14 career minor league home runs and has serious pop for such a young player in the Indians organization.

Scott Hurst — OF, State College Spikes

Hurst, 21, is a third round pick of the Cardinals this season. He’s batting .286 with a couple homers on the year. He has four stolen bases and three triples, and is a flashy prospect to see play at the Joe.

Jhailyn Ortiz — OF, Williamsport Crosscutters

Ortiz, 18, is probably the must- see prospect of this

Young, 19, is a New York native. He’s also the owner of a 1.81 ERA in nine starts.

He’s struck out 54 over 44.2 innings and walked just 11 batters.

He was drafted in the 22nd round a year ago out of high school, but is looking like he might be one of the top pitchers in the Phillies organization.

Brenan Hanifee — P, Aberdeen Ironbirds

Hanifee, 19, was taken in the fourth round by the Orioles a season ago.

He has a 2.49 ERA in 50.2 innings this season, and has only coughed up one home runs. He’s rated as the 15th best prospect in the Orioles organization.

Zac Lowther — P, Aberdeen Ironbirds

Lowther, 21, is the 13th best prospect in the Orioles organization, and is pitching like it.

He has an 0.95 ERA in 28.1 innings, and has struck out 35 batters in that time. In seven starts, he’s allowed just three total runs.
