Albany RB reinjures knee
ALBANY, N.Y. » Elijah IbitokunHanks was assisted off the field after re-injuring the right knee where he had an ACL surgery last fall.
Early indications are that Ibitokun-Hanks’ injury is not serious, and not long-term. The narratitarve of Ibitokun-Hanks’ preseason has been one of a player coming back bigger and better than he was pre-ACL tear in November.
He put on 15 pounds of muscle and said he felt better than he did last season when he was first-team all CAA and ran for 16 of Albany’s 27 offensive TDs. Ibitokun-Hanks is the offensive backbone for UAlbany. There is
no definitive starting QB - though Will Brunson is looking more likely. There is also an inexperienced offensive line. Last week, Gattuso told the TimesUnion that his offense was a “roller coaster”. Ibitokun-Hanks represented some stability in that area.
The first ACL tear came in a late- season game against Stony Brook on a non- contact cut on the grass. He came back more quickly than was expected of him.
“I just thought of each and every day, just picking something that I wanted to be able to that I couldn’t do the day before,” IbitokunHanks said just two weeks ago. “And it just picked up and I just kept doing one more thing. And before you know it, I was right back at it.”
Now, the hope for the Great Danes is that everything he did will be able to get him on the field this season.
