Food pantries to host annual event Thursday
TROY, N. Y. » The Food Pantries for the Capital District will host its sixth annual Harvest Evening Celebration from 6 to 8 p. m. Thursday at Brown’s Brewing Co.’ s Revolution Hall, 417 River St.
Hosted by by Joe Donahue of radio station WAMCFM, the event will include a VIP networking reception, silent auction, live music, raffles, hors d’oeuvres, dessert and a cash bar. Also featured will be the Food Pantry Chef’s Challenge, in which local chefs will create tastings incorporating food items commonly stocked at local pantries, with participants expected from Allie B’s Cozy Kitchen, Atho’s Restaurant, Brown’s Brewing Co., Field Notes, The Point, Tipsy Moose Tap & Tavern, Whole Foods, and a culinary team from one of The Food Pantries coalition members. Judges include Steve Barnes of The Times Union, Yono Purnomo of Yono’s, attorney William Harris, Baili of Chaine des Rotisseurs, Daniel Berman of the FUSSY little-BLOG, Dan Bazile and Ashley Miller of WNYT- TV and Yelp Elite Becky K.
The group will also recognize Siena College as its 2017 Outstanding Community Partner for contributions to the Filling the Gap food pantry system and community needs assessment and its Capital District Food Summit partnership. The Food Pantries will also posthumously honor Geraldine “Dinnie” Shanley with the 2017 Sister Mary Coons Award for her contributions in service to local food pantries and their patrons.
