HOOSICK TOWNSHIP

HISTORICAL SOCIETY: On October 14 at 10 a.m., Brian Bushner will lead a walking tour on “Boston, Hoosac Tunnel & Western via the Hoosic River Greenway”. This tour will begin at the southern end, which is past the Little League Fields, Water Works Road. Hoosick Falls. The talk will be on the Greenway unless there is heavy rain, in which case it will be held at the Louis Miller Museum, 166 Main Street, Hoosick Falls.

LITTLE HOBOES: On Saturday morning October 14, from noon to 3 p.m. the Valley Falls library is sponsoring a hobo convention/history project in the village. Children ages 6-12 will make their own bindles and go around the village as hoboes to work for food and other items hoboes might value or that homeowners of the period could spare. They will bring their food back to the library and add it to the common stock pot manned by Stockpot Pete and make a mulligan stew to share while they listen to music. They will all have union cards, a moniker and sign a hobo oath. They will also send postcards home to let family know they are still on the road but safe. A constable will be walking his beat to keep us all safe. Hobo language signs will direct the little hoboes on the right route and away from bad homes any danger.

LORD’S ACRE AUCTION: The North Chatham United Methodist Church will be holding their 69th annual Lord’s Acre Auction and Sale on October 14 at 4274 Route 203. There will be a brief worship service at 8a.m., with most departments opening at 8:30 a.m. The “White Elephant” department will open at 10 a.m. and the auctioneer will start at 11 a.m. sharp. There will be plenty of free off-street parking available, and good food for sale all day.
