Flying Horses improve to 7-0

Troy High starts slow, finishes strong to beat Colonie 48-3 and clinch the No. 1 spot in the Liberty Division

Class AA

TROY 48, COLONIE 3 » The Colonie Raiders held Troy to a scoreless first quarter and even went ahead 3-0 on Christian Hubbard’s field goal before the Flying Horses scored 48 straight points.

Star running back Joey Ward scored five touchdowns as Troy High’s explosive offense pulled away.

No. 1 state-ranked Troy (7-0) will host CBA (3-4) in the first round of the Class AA playoffs next week while Colonie (5-2) will hit the road to face Shenendeho­wa (6-1).

Wes Englintine went 9-12 for 121 and threw two touchdown passes to Carter Steingrabe­r, making Saratoga go a perfect 7-0 on the season.

Ashtone Capone had two rushing touchdowns and Avery Mickle added one of his own.

La Salle’s lone touchdown came on a 26 yard touchdown pass from Dermont McDonough to Tyree Gonzales. The Shenendeho­wa varsity football team secured the No. 2 seed in the Empire Division with a 21-10 win over Christian Brothers Academy Friday night and the Brothers continued to improve heading into the playoffs.

CBA (3-3 Empire Division, 3-4 overall) turned the ball on just one occasion Friday night, a plus for the Brothers who have averaged more than three giveaways over the previous four weeks.

Shenendeho­wa senior wide receiver Devin Disonell hauled in six passes from junior quarterbac­k Brendan Belott, thee for touchdowns and 81 yards on senior night. Senior Joe Novenche balanced out the scoring threat, reeling in four catches for 66 yards. Belott finished with a 12for-18 night with an intercepti­on, three scores and 161 yards in the air.

Shenendeho­wa will host Colonie Friday in the first round of the Class AA playoffs, CBA will travel to face Troy High.

Ballston Spa senior Jason McCarthy gave the Scottie homecoming fans something to cheer about Friday night carrying the ball 23 times for 315 yards and five touchdowns in the Scotties 42-21 win over Niskayuna. SHAKER

Four different players combined for six touchdowns as Shaker blasted Columbia, earning the team’s fourth shutout win of the season. Shaker rebounded after a loss to Troy the week before, and enters the playoffs on a high note. Ravion Burt had two touchdowns, one on offense, and one on a kick return. Akap Takor had two as well. One on a pick-six, another running the ball on offense.

Class A

SOUTH GLENS FALLS 7 » Queensbury scored 28 points in the second quarter to take the much needed victory over South Glens Falls. Queensbury gets the Class A third seed in the playoffs with the win.

Nate Angell went 5-12 for 124 yards in the game and Patrick Conway had a two rushing and receiving touchdown to lead the Spartans to the win.

HILLS 64, GREEN TECH 14 » The Burnt HillsBalls­ton Lake squad, ranked No. 5 in the latest New York State Sportswrit­ers poll jumped out to a 44-0 halftime lead Friday night on the road at Green Tech and simply coasted to an undefeated regular season victory, 64-14. COBLESKILL 39, LANSINGBUR­GH

Cobleskill got out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back against the Knights. Jacob Lapham had 115 yards passing with two touchdowns for Lansingbur­gh, and Mike Zanda had 140 yards rushing.

Class B

AMSTERDAM 10 » Schuylervi­lle rushed for 411 yards, with Carson Dunkel accounting for 130 yards and two touchdowns, to lead Schuylervi­lle to the non-league win over Amsterdam.

Orion Anderson added two touchdowns of his own, rushing for 25 and 50 yards respective­ly, and the Black Horses moved to 6-1 to finish the regular season.

Class C

STILLWATER 40, LAKE

The Warriors scored 40 straight points to earn a home win. Mason Seymour ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns while Stillwater (5-1, 6-1) quarterbac­k James Galarneau scored on runs of 54 and 12 yards and threw an 18 yard touchdown to Adam Ploutz.

Logan Duers scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns for LG/H-L (2-4, 3-4).

Class C

16, HOOSICK FALLS 12 » Quarterbac­k Sam Richard gave Hoosick Falls a quick 6-3 lead with a nine-yard touchdown run, but that would be the only TD of the game for the Panthers. Keegan McHale had a game-winning 21-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to give Mechanicvi­lle the lead and help them rebound from a big loss against rival Stillwater a week before.

38, CORINTH Watervliet avoided a nightmare scenario and eventually defeated winless Corinth on Friday night in overtime. Corinth failed on a two-point conversion to tie the game. Kareem Duncan had four touchdowns for the Cannoneers on the evening, who improved to 6-1 on the season.

Class D

» The Greenwich football team completed its undefeated regular season with a home rout of Cohoes in a Class D contest.

The Witches (7-0) got two touchdowns from Cole Burgess and three from Reese Cristaldi to take a 33-0 lead in the first half.

Cristaldi added another in the second half in the Class D contest.
