TROY, N.Y.» The Collar City has a new barbershop with the opening of The Palace: Elite Grooming Haircuts & Designs.

Owned and operated by barber Marlon Sousis, the new business recently opened at 501 Campbell Ave.

Sousis was previously a founder and owner of Hall Of Fades Barbershop in Rensselaer, but decided to go out on his own and start The Palace when the opportunity arose to take over the Troy space, which was formerly a barbershop.

“I decided to expand and venture out on my own,” he said.

In this new endeavor, Sousis said his goal is to make every customer feel like royalty. For men,

it’s a place to be groomed and treated like kings.

“When they come in here, they’re going to be treated professionally, and they’re going to leave with quality haircuts,” Sousis said.

Sousis also welcomes children.

“I just wanted to open a family-friendly, comfortable, warm environment for people to come get their kids hair cut,” he said.

In addition to standard hair- cutting, The Palace offers hot towel shaves, gentleman’s cuts, specialty combovers, Mohawks, burst fades, skin fades and other styles.

“We’re really big on expressing yourself,” said Sousis, who pointed out even the capes and barber’s aprons at The Palace are custom- created. “We just create.”

Looking ahead, Sousis said the ultimate goal is “to have a business that’s welcoming, where people feel comfortable coming there, it’s family-friendly, and they know that when they leave, they’re going to leave with a quality haircut.”

The Troy native, who grew up in Rensselaer and now lives in Green Island, also aims for The Palace to be involved in the community through different efforts, such as family fun days.

“I really want the business to be involved with the community a lot,” said Sousis, who is a motivational speaker known as ItsMarvyMarv within the barber industry. “There’s a lot that you can do as a barber, so I’m trying to be an inspiration,

“I want our business to be an inspiration for mainly the youth, because they’re the ones that are most in- fluential. I just want to be a positive business in the community.”

The Palace is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Appointments can be booked through the barbershop’s website, http://thepalacebarbershopny.com, or by calling 518- 874- 4519, and walk-ins are welcome. The business is also on Instagram @thepalacebarbershopny.
