‘ the Middle of Everywhere,’ arriving in Salem on Saturday, November 25, for the annual Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. This year’s theme is ‘A Very Sparkly Christmas!” The 2017 Parade will kick off at 1pm from Vail Street, following Main Street to Park Place and ending at the Fairgrounds. Grand Marshall Carly McPhee, daughter of Don and Carol McPhee and outstanding senior at Salem Central School, will lead the parade. ALZHEIMER’S/DEMENTIA CAREGIVING SERIES: Troy Public Library is hosting an Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregiver’s Series presented by the Alzheimer’s Association. Session 2in the 3part series will be held November 28at 2p.m.at the main library, 100Second Street. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. BRAIN FOOD FOR THE CURIOUS: New York State Museum historians and scientists share their knowledge and research in a series of lunchtime talks this fall and winter. EAST SIDE SENIORS: The East Side Seniors’ next regular meeting will be on November 28. Team 5will be the host/hostess. POESTENKILL HISTORICAL SOCIETY: In early 1864, a nineteen-year- old Irish immigrant named Kate Mullany organized the shirt collar laundry workers of Troy, New York, into the nation’s first truly all-female labor union. Their weeklong strike yielded them a twenty-five per cent raise and vaulted Mullany to national prominence. Today, the house that she bought for her family is a National Historic Site and the home of the American Labor Studies Center, which helps educate young Americans about the history of labor in the United States. Tom Carroll’s talk will tell that story at 7p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Town Hall on Route 351. The program is free and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be provided.
POESTENKILL SENIORS: The Poestenkill Seniors hold weekly meetings every Tuesday at 1p.m. at the Sullivan-Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill. All seniors are welcome. Coffee and refreshments are served after the meeting, followed by bingo and cards. The hall is handicapped-accessible with sufficient parking. The Poestenkill Seniors hold catered luncheons, clamsteams and fish frys at various restaurants. Best of all, they go on bus trips to casinos and other points of interest. Dues are $10a year.

MIRACLE ON 15TH STREET: On Wednesday, November 29, at 7p.m., The Hill at Muza will light an 18 foot spruce tree from Bob’s Trees in Galway. The tree will stand on an outdoor “stage” area, about six feet above the beer garden, and is decorated with 500 feet of twinkling Christmas lights. Duly Noted, an AllMale RPI student acapella group, will perform holiday carols and songs for the crowd from 7p.m. to 9p.m., and will be joined by a special surprise musical guest, or two. Complimentary plates of Christmas cookies from The Cookie Factory will be served. The Hill is an outgrowth of Muza, the adjacent Polish restaurant on 15th Street in Troy. The rain date is December 1.
