Questar III to host pair of CTE open houses
TROY, N.Y. » Rensselaer County high school students and their parents or guardians are invited to learn about hands-on career and technical education, career studies and New Visions programs offered through Questar III BOCES.
Questar III will host two sessions at the Rensselaer Educational Center, 35 Colleen Road, with the first — for high school juniors — from
6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and the other — for freshmen and sophomores — from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17. The session for juniors will provide information on the New Visions and seniorsonly Certified Nurse Aide program, while the Jan. 17 session will feature all CTE and career studies programs.
Questar III’s career and technical education programs offer students hands-on training in their chosen field, while also providing in-depth theory and classroom work taught by industry experts. All CTE students complete an internship during their senior year and have the option of completing a technical assessment approved by the state Education Department to earn a technical endorsement on their high school diploma.
Career studies programs also offer students hands-on training in a variety of fields, but consist of smaller class sizes to ensure students have the support they need. New Visions programs, meanwhile, are one-year, rigorous courses for seniors, designed to provide in-depth, self-directed experiences in STEM, research, medical and visual and performing arts fields. Students in New Visions programs also have the opportunity to earn college credit through their coursework, as well as to interact regularly with professionals in a variety of fields.
