Dollar General sets grand opening for Saturday
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. » Dollar General’s newest store at 51 Leonard St. (Route 32) in Gansevoort is now open.
An official grand opening is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday with free prizes and special offers.
The first 50 adult shoppers at the store will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag with complimentary product samples, among other giveaways.
Prior to its approval and construction, the store project was the subject of heated debate among local residents. Many people said the town desperately needed retail shopping, while others argued that the site, located between two homes with young families, wasn’t right for commercial development.
Dollar General has recently opened several other new stores in small rural communities throughout the area such as Schuylerville and Argyle.
The Tennessee- based company had expressed interest in building a large distribution center near Exit 16, in Wilton, but opted for a site near Amsterdam instead.
The store offers national name brands and private brands of food, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies, basic apparel and health/beauty products.
Dollar General stores employ approximately six to 10 people, depending on the need. For more infor- mation, visit www.dollargeneral.com.
