Lepracon offers ‘pot of gold’ Saturday
Bar system, Boston getaway also can be won
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The Spa City is going green this weekend for the second annual Lepracon pub crawl, a fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Lepracon is scheduled for this Saturday, one week in advance of St. Patrick’s Day, at participating bars throughout downtown Saratoga Springs.
Everyone is encouraged to put on their best leprechaun attire and join hundreds of others in this oncea-year St. Paddy’s party.
A full day of festivities, Lepracon will begin with a Kegz & Eggz brunch at Harvey’s from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Buffet brunch will cost $8 each, will all proceeds going to the Ameri- can Cancer Society.
After noon, bagpipers will lead the pub crawl crowd to its first stop Bailey’s, then continue it’s way down Phila Street and Putnam Street, ending on Caroline Street.
Stops include Peabody’s, The Icehouse, Clancy’s Tavern, Dango’s, Gaffney’s, Saratoga City Tavern, Spa City Tap and Barrel, Caroline Street Pub, and The Parting Glass.
Along the way Lepraconers will have a chance to be the lucky leprechaun that wins an at-home bar system, a Boston getaway to see The Dropkick Murphys or the big “pot of gold” at the end of the rainbow: a $50 gift card from each of the participating business.
For this prize, all Lepracon attendees will receive a lock combination at the start of the event, which they can check on the locked pot of gold at Caroline Street Pub.
Those in charge are aiming to create a fun, festive atmosphere in Sara- toga Springs, a perfect pub crawl city with lots of bars in walking distance within a vibrant downtown district.
With good weather predicted for the weekend and St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, “We’re embracing March,” organizer Brian Miller said.
Furthermore, “You’re crawling for a cause,” said Miller, who founded the event last year with Elizabeth Hunter, development manager of distinguished events for the local American Cancer Society office. Since then, Miller has also taken over as organizer of the popular Santacon pub crawl, another charitable fundraiser, in December.
The idea behind Lepracon is to bring the luck on many leprechauns together this weekend for a fun day to raise money for the fight against cancer, Miller said.
The goal of this fundraiser is to help make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer, he continued, noting that the money stays in the Capital Region.
The funds raised at LepraCON will aid the American Cancer Society in furthering its mission of “saving lives, celebrating lives and leading the fight for a world without cancer,” Hunter said.
Event-goers can pre-register online by making a donation of $20 or more, or register by paying cash the day of at Harvey’s or Bailey’s.
