UALBANY’S CHRIS CANNATA EARNS 700TH SOFTBALL COACHING WIN GREENWICH GRAD RACHEL HALL 1-FOR-3 IN COBLESKILL LOSS

HAMPTON, VA >> UAlbany softball head coach Chris Cannata has reached her 700th victory with the Great Danes. The 700th win came at the Blue and White Classic in Hampton, Virginia where the Great Danes defeated Hampton 7-1on Friday, March 9th. Coach Chris Cannata is in her 24th season at UAlbany and has lead the team to win six America East Conference titles.

“I honestly had no idea about the number,” said head coach Chris Cannata. “Our kids were on it and we had a nice little celebratio­n last night that was really sweet. I really have to just say thank you to all of my staff, most of which have been by my side for a majority of those wins. I am very grateful to Jack Coons, Joe Reardon, Kate Gentile, Mary Kate Hedderman and all of the other assistants and staff that I have been fortunate enough to work with over the years. I also need to thank all of the players that have been a part of the UAlbany softball family for more than the last two decades. Our tradition has been laid down by the many talented Virginia Beach, Va. >> The SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team’s struggles continued at the 2018Virgin­ia Wesleyan Beach Blast on Saturday as the Fighting Tigers dropped a 13-5decision to the Bears of SUNY Potsdam. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 0-3while the Bears improve to 1-2 overall on the season. Cobleskill led 5-2after the first inning as the Fighting Tigers capitalize­d on a series of walks and Bear defensive miscues but could mount little else in the way of offense as Potsdam held the Orange & Black in check for the rest of the game while pounding out 15hits of their own in the contest. Freshman first baseman Rachel Hall, (Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich H.S.), was 1-for-3with a run scored on the afternoon for Cobleskill in the contest. Tigers senior Hannah Hoffman (Troy, N.Y./Averill Park H.S.) walked twice and scored for Cobleskill in the opening loss.
