Burnt Hills’ Ryan earns save percentage award

BRITTANY RYAN EARNS SAVE PERCENTAGE AWARD

MANSFIELD, PA. » Brittany Ryan ( Burnt Hills, N.Y./ Burnt Hills) and the Mansfield University field hockey team earned NCAA Division II Statistica­l Champion awards for individual and team save percentage during the 2017 season.

Ryan is the 2017 NCAA Statistica­l Champion in individual save percentage for a goalkeeper at .874. That percentage topped all keepers in NCAA Division I, II, and III. Ryan was efficient in goal while ranking fourth in the nation in saves per game at 9.91 and 11th in goals against average at 1.38.

Ryan became the seventh field hockey student-athlete in program history to be named an All-American following the 2017 season picking up 1st Team NFHCA recognitio­n. She was also selected as the ECAC Division II Defensive Player of the Year and was named to 1st Team All-ECAC and 2nd Team All-PSAC honors.

As a team, Mansfield earned NCAA Statistica­l Champion status for posting the best save percentage in the nation at .883. The Mountainee­rs also ranked second in Division II in defensive saves with 16, fourth in saves per game at 10.50, and fifth in penalty corners at 9.78.

Mansfield saw a six-win improvemen­t from a year ago under the direction of third-year head coach Brittany Hansrote who led the Mounties to an 8-10 record in 2017. Two of those eight wins came against nationally ranked opponents with a 1-0 overtime victory at No. 7 Bloomsburg and a 4- 0 win against No. 5 Slippery Rock. Following the season, Hansrote was named PSAC Coach of the Year with Ryan, Meghan Griffin, and Katie Lipski each earning all- conference honors.

It marks the first individual NCAA Statistica­l Champion for Mansfield since Jessi Swingle in 2013 and the first team award since 2011. Both awards were for defensive saves.
