Man gets 7 years in prison
TROY, N.Y. » A Troy man was sentenced to seven years in prison for a 2017 attempted kidnapping near the Poestenkill Gore, authorities said.
In a recent news release, Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel E. Abelove announced that Daniel K. Flowers, 39, was sentenced to prison for his guilty plea to one count of Attempted Kidnapping in the Second Degree as a sexually motivated offense, a class C violent felony, in Rensselaer County Court.
The release said Flowers previously admitted guilt to an incident which occurred on August 2, 2017, where he approached two women hiking near the Poestenkill Gorge, in the city of Troy,
and committed a lewd act. Flowers assaulted and tried to abduct one of the victims before the victims were able to fight him off.
Flowers was later taken in to custody by members of the Troy Police Department after a near week- long investigation.
As a result of the plea, Flowers was sentenced to seven years in state prison, followed by 15 years of post- release supervision. The release said that, he will also be required to register as a sex offender.
“This violent, sexual predator is thankfully off our streets. I commend the women who showed incredible courage and strength, both in fighting off their attacker, and pursuing the prosecution of this despicable defendant,” Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove in a news release.
Assistant District Attorneys Patrick F. Scully prosecuted the case. The defendant was sentenced at the Rensselaer County Courthouse before the Honorable Debra J. Young.
