Cavosie named assistant for RPI women

TROY, N.Y. » Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute (RPI) Associate Vice President Director of Athletics Dr. Lee McElroy has announced the hiring of Marc Cavosie as an assistant women’s ice hockey coach. Cavosie joins Tara Connolly on the staff of second-year head coach Bryan Vines.

“We are excited to welcome Marc as an assistant coach with our hockey program,” said Vines. “Marc’s passion for RPI, RPI hockey and our community stood out as we went through the process. He is a great coach and even better person, who is an excellent communicat­or and teacher of the game. He knows what it takes to have success on and off the ice at RPI and we are excited to see the positive impact he will make on our staff and student-athletes.”

Cavosie comes a full-time assistant coach after serving as a volunteer assistant last season, as well as for the Rensselaer men’s

hockey team from 20142017, where he helped out with the forwards as well as individual skills work.

A 12-year profession­al playing career began in 2002- 03, after being selected in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild. He played three seasons with Houston Aeros, Minnesota’s AHL af- filiate, before playing 63 games for the Philadelph­ia Phantoms in 2005- 06.

Cavosie’s spent a year playing in Sweden, before returning to the states though the 2009-10 season, seeing time with the Albany River Rats and Binghamton Senators of the AHL. He then played two seasons in in Slovenia, before closing out his playing career with three years in the Asia League, for the Oji Eagles and the Tohoku Free Blades.

selaer, Cavosie played in 97 games, scoring 48 goals and recording 61 assists for 109 points. He led the Engineers in scoring during his senior campaign, notching 23 goals and 27 assists, while helping the team to a 20-13- 4 overall record and a third place finish at the ECAC Hockey Championsh­ips in Lake Placid.

A Cohoes, N.Y., native and graduate of Albany Academy, Cavosie earned All- ECAC Hockey First Team honors and was the ECAC Player of the Year, a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award and a First Team National All-American following his senior season.
