Robert Longuevill­e Gifford, 95, died of natural causes, at Bay Village in Sarasota, Florida, on July 28th, 2018, after a life well-lived. He was born in Troy, NY, to the late Dr. Clayton Longuevill­e Gifford and the late Marie Louise Rothermel (RN) of Watervliet, NY. He graduated from Albany Academy and received his undergradu­ate degree from Harvard. He graduated Dartmouth in 1944 with an MBA from Tuck School of Business. After completing his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country, retiring as Captain after 30 years. He was married to Helen Louise Flynn for 61 years until her death in 2017. They lived in many interestin­g places all over the world and traveled extensivel­y, covering the globe, touring over 42 countries. After Captain Gifford retired, they lived in the village of Barnes in Greater London for almost forty years. Their life was full of wonderful friendship­s the couple nurtured and maintained up to their deaths. Bob, or Giff as he was known to many, is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Peg Gifford of Ballston Spa, NY, sister-in-law Edna Flynn Lane of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; nephews Allen Gifford, and Joe (Marguerite) Lane. Also nieces Karen Lambruschi, Loren (Greg) Skizim, Louise (Paul) LeGrand, Anne (Conrad) Kohlman, Beth (Ken) Merchant, Mary (Hop) Bailey, Pat (Jerry) With, Helen (Jeff) Headlee, and Betty Duff. Bob also is survived by his and Helen’s most trusted Guardian, Jennifer Burke of Summit Guardiansh­ip, Inc, Sarasota, FL, who became a friend and part of the Gifford family while acting on their behalf over the past four plus years. The family sends a very special and heartfelt appreciati­on to Jennifer for her wonderful guidance, service, compassion, love, and friendship during this time. A service for Christian Committal of Ashes will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghtico­ke, NY with The Rev. Theresa C. Gifford, Officiatin­g. Following the service, friends and relatives will gather to celebrate this wonderful life with love and remembranc­es.
