Mu­sic fes­ti­val set for this week­end

LAKEGEORGE, N.Y. » The 4th An­nual Adiron­dack In­de­pen­dence Mu­sic fes­ti­val re­turns to Lake Ge­orge over La­bor Day Week­end, with head­lin­ing acts Twid­dle and Pi­geons Play­ing Ping Pong on the bill.

The 2018 Adiron­dack In­de­pen­dence Mu­sic Fes­ti­val is sched­uled for Satur­day and Sun­day at the Charles R. Wood Fes­ti­val Com­mons in Lake Ge­orge.

The two-day, multi-band event will fea­ture sev­eral of the pre­miere tour­ing bands cur­rently on the fes­ti­val cir­cuit, in­clud­ing head­lin­ers Twid­dle and Pi­geons Play­ing Ping Pong, each which will per­form two sets at this year’s fes­ti­val.

With years of re­lent­less tour­ing un­der its belt, Ver­mont-based, jam/rock band Twid­dle has built an im­pres­sive re­sume, span­ning Red Rocks to Bon­na­roo and mul­ti­ple sell­outs at his­toric venues in­clud­ing Port Ch­ester, NY’s Capi­tol The­atre and Wash­ing­ton D.C.’s 9:30 club. The quar­tet cel­e­brated the past two New Year’s Eves in the Cap­i­tal Dis­trict with per­for­mances at the Palace The­atre in Al­bany, where it was were joined by loyal fans from all over the coun­try. Twid­dle will per­form two sets to close out Satur­day night at the fes­ti­val.

Sun­day’s head­liner, Pi­geons Play­ing Ping Pong, brings end- of- the- world en­thu­si­asm to its high- en­ergy psy­che­delic funk. The band’s in­fec­tious elec­tro­funk grooves, un­de­ni­able live en­ergy and con­ta­gious smiles have its ra­bid fan­base “the Flock” grow­ing ex­po­nen­tially. Based out of Bal­ti­more, MD, this an­i­mated quar­tet has been scorch­ing up the coun­try with its ex­plo­sive per- for­mances and dance­able peaks. This has been a big one for the group, which spent much of the sum­mer per­form­ing at sev­eral of the na­tion’s top fes­ti­vals, in­clud­ing stand­out per­for­mances at Bon­na­roo and The Peach Mu­sic Fes­ti­val.

Other big names on this year’s lineup in­clude mul­ti­in­stru­men­tal­ist Keller Wil­liams, Bad­fish: A Trib­ute to Sub­lime and Pink Talk­ing Fish who threw down an in­cred­i­ble set at last year’s fes­ti­val, which in­cluded a per­for­mance of Pink Floyd’s “Shine on You Crazy Di­a­mond” as fire­works ex­ploded over­head.

This year’s fes­ti­val will also see the de­but per­for­mance by funky su­per­group Back to School Spe­cial, fea- tur­ing sax­o­phon­ist Sam Kininger ( Let­tuce / Soulive), Michelan­gelo Carubba (drums) and Craig Brod­head ( gui­tar) of Turkuaz and Kung Fu key­boardist Beau Sasser.

Round­ing out the 2018 lineup are Lu­cid, Le­spe­cial, For­mula 5, Jen Durkin & The Busi­ness, Swift Tech­nique, Steal Your Peach Band, Wild Adri­atic Presents: Mul­ti­pede, Grate­fully Yours, Goose, The Melt­ing No­mads, Let’s Be Leonard and LDF: Ladies Drink Free.

The two- day fes­ti­val will fea­ture mu­sic across two al­ter­nat­ing main stages at the fes­ti­val com­mons from 1 to 11 p.m., with late-night sets tak­ing place at the nearby King Nep­tune’s un­til 3am. Ad­mis­sion to the latenights sets is free to fes­ti­val at­ten­dees 21 and older. How­ever, mu­sic at the fes­ti­val com­mons is open to all ages and fam­i­lies are en­cour­aged to at­tend.

For those wish­ing to make a full week­end of it, there will also be a free multi-venue kick- off party on Fri­day fea­tur­ing the Funky Dawgz Brass Band & Cap­i­tal Zen at Shep­ard Park in down­town Lake Ge­orge (6 p.m.) and Sophista­funk & Half Step at King Nep­tune’s (9:30 p.m.). The fes­ti­val will then wrap up with a free “Last Chance Beach Party” on Mon­day, La­bor Day from 1 to 6 p.m. at Shep­ard Park fea­tur­ing per­for­mances by Shu, Hart­ley’s En­core and multi-in­stru­men­tal­ist Rich Or­tiz. Both the kick­off party and Last Chance Beach Party will be free and open to the gen­eral public as well as fes­ti­val at­ten­dees

Tick­ets to the fes­ti­val are $80 in ad­vance for week­end tick­ets and$45 for day tick­ets and are cur­rently on sale at www.eventbrite.com. There is also a spe­cial VIP op­tion avail­able, which in­cludes ad­mis­sion to the fes­ti­val, a buf­fet din­ner, free snacks, half­priced adult bev­er­ages, $1 water and soft drinks, a pri­vate view­ing area with a pri­vate bar and ac­cess to pri­vate bath­rooms.
