Troy – Kathleen J. Butler, 100, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy. Born in Hoosick Falls, NY on July 9, 1918, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Helen (O’Brien) Butler. She was a graduate of Troy High School and received her Bachelor’s degree from NYS Teachers College in Albany. Kathleen retired from the NYS Department of Audit & Control in Albany as a senior research analyst in 1973. Kathleen was the anchor of her family; the ultimate caretaker and planner. She was always an avid reader, but once she retired she delved into many new areas taking up golf, joining a bridge group, taking swimming and sewing lessons, and traveling extensivel­y with her sisters and many nieces and nephews and their children. Kathleen will be remembered as a sweet woman who was gentle, generous and kind. She enjoyed volunteeri­ng at Albany Memorial Hospital following her retirement and was a member of the C.S.E.A., the Hart Senior Citizens and was a communican­t of Historic St. Mary’s Church in Albany. She is the dear sister of the late Helen, Gladys, John, Thomas, and Nicholas Butler and Florence Sullivan, loving aunt of Terry (Mary) Butler of Defreestvi­lle, Kathleen E. (Jonathan) Bartow of Slingerlan­ds, Jeanette (Ralph) Miller of Berne and John T. (Sandy) Butler of New Jersey and several grandniece­s, grandnephe­ws and 5 great grandniece­s. Kathleen’s family would like to thank the staff at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy for their loving care and guidance over the past few years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Saturday at 9:30 am in the Historic Church of St. Mary on Capitol Hill, 10 Lodge Street, Albany. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy. There will be no public visiting hours prior to the Mass.
