Siena Men adds Cox and Eccles to staff

LOUDONVILL­E, NY » The Siena Men’s Lacrosse program and head coach Liam Gleason have announced Tim Cox and Derrick Eccles as additions to his staff for the upcoming 2019 season.

“I had a chance to coach both, as well as work with both of them as coaches,” said Gleason. “Both Tim and Derrick are highly energetic, positive, and competitiv­e individual­s, and will be essential in establishi­ng the culture that I believe is necessary for our success.”

Cox joins Siena after a two-year stint at Robert Morris University, where he helped lead the Colonials to a 22-12 record over two years. He helped guide the program’s first ever NCAA appearance in 2018 after winning the NEC. The Colonials would defeat Canisius in the opening round before falling to top-ranked Maryland in the second round.

bany, helping them to a No. 4 ranking in the USILA Coaches Poll and Inside Lacrosse Cascade/ Maverick Media Poll, the highest ranking for the team since 2007. The 2016 season marked the Great Danes’ fourth consecutiv­e perfect America East regular season.

A former standout Great Dane midfielder, Cox led UAlbany to three America East Tournament titles and a pair of NCAA Tournament victories. He collected America East All- Conference Second Team accolades while wearing the captain’s “C” for his senior year in 2015. He finished his career with 40 goals and 12 assists for 52 points, adding 55 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers. In his senior season, he recorded at least one point in 16 of 19 games played.

“Tim is a driven, young coach with a great offensive mind. He’s a great communicat­or and has a tremendous work ethic. I’m really excited for him to be able to take the reins of the offense.

Eccles joins the Saints from crosstown UAlbany, where he served the last two years as a volunteer assistant coach. Eccles, a 2016 graduate from UAlbany and four-year letter winner, served as the team’s representa­tive in the USILA North-South Game his senior season. The 2013 America East All-Rookie Team midfielder was a team captain in the 2015 and 2016 seasons, earning 45 points, off 29 goals and 16 assists, 62 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers in 61 career games played. In his career, Eccles helped UAlbany win four America East regular season titles and three America East Tournament titles, helping the Great Danes earn berths in four NCAA Tournament­s and two NCAA quarterfin­al rounds. He was part of a senior class that earned 53 victories from 2013-16.
