Leeds named RPI Men’s Lax assistant

TROY, N.Y. >> The Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute (RPI) men’s lacrosse program has added Aaron Leeds as an assistant coach, it has been announced by Associate Vice President & Director of Athletics Dr. Lee McElroy. Leeds joins the staff of first-year head coach Scott Hackett-Dalgleish.

A native of Owings Mills, Md., Leeds comes to the Engineers from Ferrum College in Virginia, where he was an assistant coach and defensive coordinato­r in 2017. In his one season with the Panthers, he helped them finish fourth in Division III in mandown defense (85%) and seventh in clearing percentage (89%).

Leeds was a four-year varsity performer at Salisbury University prior to entering coaching. As a defenseman, he helped the Gulls to three NCAA Championsh­ip games, including back-to- back national titles in 2016 and 2017. The team, which played in the quarterfin­als of the NCAA Playoffs in 2014, won two Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championsh­ips and finished with an 83-9 record in his tenure.

Individual­ly, Leeds played in 61 games, including 44 as a

starter. He registered career highs for assists (3), points (3), ground balls (63) and caused turnovers (40) as a senior when he was named All- CAC First Team and a United States Intercolle­giate Lacrosse Associ-

ation (USILA) All-America. He was All-League Second Team as a junior when he had a goal and an assist with 61 ground balls and 38 caused turnovers in 24 contests. He also earned the team’s Unsung Hero award.

Leeds graduated from Salisbury with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. He is also a graduate of The Boys’ Latin

School of Maryland, where he played soccer, hockey and lacrosse, helping each team to conference championsh­ips or championsh­ip games. He was presented the Hayley Milbourn Integrity Award, which honors a Baltimore-area high school athlete who demonstrat­es extraordin­ary character, by The Baltimore Sun during his senior year.
