LCSD plans use of remaining capital funds

TROY, N.Y. >> The Lansingburgh Central School District said it is proposing additional vital improvements to their school buildings.

The district intends to use the remaining funds from the 2015 Turnpike Elementary School (TES) Capital Project.

The District said it completed the TES Project under budget, which means the funding for the proposed additional improvements would come at no cost to the District taxpayers.

District officials said the proposed improvements would come at a maximum cost of $1,157,369, the amount remaining from staying under budget on the TES Project.

Qualified voters of the District will decide on this use of funds for school building improvements in a vote scheduled for Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

Officials said the vote is early in 2019 so the District can put out bids for the improvements and complete them over the summer of 2019.

District taxpayers must vote to approve the proposed additional improvements since they were not included in the original Capital Project vote proposal.

In receiving voter approval for these additional improvements, the District said they can claim Building Aid on the expended funds.

These improvement projects would be reimbursed by the state at 90%. The remaining 10% would be offset through the original TES project.

Proposed improvements at no cost to taxpayers include:

• Building and rehabilitat-

ing a secure entryway vestibule for Rensselaer Park Elementary, to match the work already done at Turnpike Elementary.

• Roofing repairs and reconstruction for the Knickerbocker Middle School and Lansingburgh High School

Voting polls are open on Jan. 15, 2019, from noon to 9 p.m.
