SERVICE OF LESSONS & CAROLS: Williams College’s annual “Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols,” featuring choral music by the Williams Concert and Chamber Chorus as well as congregati­onal singing of carols and a reading of the biblical Christmas story, will be held at 4p.m., preceded by a prelude at 3:40 p.m., on December 8and 9in Thompson Memorial Chapel on Hopkins Hill Drive, Williamsto­wn MA. Brad Wells directs the Concert and Chamber Choirs. Rev. Valerie Bailey Fischer, Chaplain to the College, delivers the meditation, while Fr. Gary Caster, Catholic Chaplain, serves as liturgist. There is no admission charge, but all are encouraged to donate an item of non-perishable canned or packed food for emergency food pantries, and a free-will offering will support the work of the Berkshire Immigrant Center and the Al Nelson Friendship Center Food Pantry.

SUNNY SUNDAYS: Sunny Sundays are your opportunit­y to take a safe glimpse at the sun. Educators from the Dudley Observator­y at miSci will operate their 14inch telescope inside the roll-top roof observator­y, allowing visitors to safely look at the sun and search for sunspots. Other objects such as the moon and planets may also be visible. In the event of poor weather, there will be hands-on indoor activities instead. HONOR A DECEASED VETERAN: The Rensselaer County Honor a Deceased Veteran Program honors WWII U.S. Army veteran Joseph G. Campbell at this month’s ceremony on December 10at 8:30a.m. in the Legislativ­e Chambers, Third Floor of the County Office Building, 1600Sevent­h Avenue, Troy. Joseph served as a First Scout and Rifleman in the European theater, earning the European-AfricanMid­dle East Medal with two battle stars, the American Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.
