Senator Jordan named to various committees
ALBANY, N.Y >> Newly elected New York State Senator Daphne Jordan ( R,C, I, Ref-Halfmoon) recently announced that Senate Minority Leader John J. Flanagan has named her the Ranking Minority Member on the Senate’s Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee.
In addition, Senator Jordan said she was was named the Ranking Minority Member on the Senate’s Native American Relations Subcommittee.
The 43rd Senate District is home to the historic, world-renowned Saratoga Race Course and Racino. The 43rd Senate District covers parts of Rensselaer, Saratoga, Columbia, and Washington counties.
Prior to her election as Sen- ator, in her capacity as Legislative Director to former Senator Kathy Marchione, Jordan said she worked extensively on the successful, bi-partisan effort to re-privatize the New York Racing Association (NYRA) as a nonprofit, ending years of an unfulfilled Albany promise.
Officials said that areas of jurisdiction for the Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee include, but are not limited to, NYRA, state racetracks, off track betting (OTB), video lottery terminals ( VLTs) and the New York State Lottery, as well as charitable gaming.
“Horse racing is absolutely vital to our economy, job creation, local farms and way of life, not just here in Saratoga County, but across our Capital Region and the entire state,” said Jordan in a news release. “Given Saratoga and the Saratoga Race Course’s historic role as a premier destination for world- class horse racing such as the Travers Stakes and so many other races, I’m thrilled and honored that Leader Flanagan named me our Conference’s Ranking Minority Member on the Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee.
I look forward to serving in this important position and will continue working to ensure that the Saratoga Race Course and horse racing have a bright and prosperous future.”
Jordan said she was also excited to be appointed to serve on the Senate’s Native American Relations Subcommittee.
“I amgrateful that Leader Flanagan also appointed me to serve as the Ranking Minority Member on the Senate’s Native American Relations Subcommittee. I will work to ensure continued dialog between all stakeholders and policymakers in this important area,” Senator Jordan said.
