Cohoes man faces 50 years in prison for raping child

ALBANY, N.Y. >> A 39-year- old Cohoes man faces 50 years in prison after he was found guilty in a child rape case, according to Albany County Distinct Attorney David Soares.

Soares recently announced that Derrick Rosa, 39, of Cohoe s , wa s found guilty after a jury trial of one count of firstdegre­e criminal sexual act, a Class B Felony, one count of second- degree criminal sexual act, a Class D Felony, two counts of first-degree rape, each Class B Felonies, one count of second- degree Rape, a Class D Felony, one count of third- degree rape, a Class E Felony, and two counts of endangerin­g the welfare of a child, each Class A Misdemeano­rs, before the Honorable William A. Carter in Albany County Court this afternoon.

After deliberati­on and review of the presented evidence during the trial, Soares said that the jury found that on an evening between October 9, 2014 and October 31, 2014, Rosa engaged in forcible oral sexual conduct with a child who was 14 years old at the time.

Between Nov. 27, 2014 and Dec. 25, 2014, authoritie­s said Rosa engaged in forcible sexual intercours­e with the same child. This conduct continued with the child until the final act of sexual intercours­e occurred on Aug. 22, 2017, again by forcible compulsion, when she was now 16 years old.

Over the aforementi­oned period of time Soares said that Rosa engaged in multiple acts of physical abuse against the child as well.

In addition, Soares said that Rosa did knowingly act in a manner likely to be harmful to the physical, mental, or moral welfare of an additional child in the home during the same time period.

Rosa faces 50 years in State Prison when sentenced on February 8, 2019.
