Shoemaker selected Warrior of the Week
The 22-year-old Averill Park native is a member of the United States Air Force
AVERILL PARK, N.Y. >> United States Air Force member Scott Shoemaker was recently selected as the “Warrior of the Week.”
The 22-year- old Averill Park native is a member of the United States Air Force. He currently holds the position of Airfield Management Operations Shift Supervisor.
“I feel Airman First Class Scott Shoemaker, is an outstanding worker! Scott’s ‘ Warrior Of The Week’ award downrange is similar to multiple awards he receives at his home unit, back at Charleston,” said Airfield Manager Nathaniel L. Watts.
Watts said Airfield Management Specialists play a vital role in the Air Force around the world
Shoemaker and his team make sure all aircraft can take off and land safely, keeping runways clear and making sure pilots have the information they need, by providing aircrews pre-flight briefings, and brief pilots on current airfield status; arresting system configuration, runway surface conditions, to include correct taxi routes and any hazards to operations in person and via air-to-ground radios.
“He knows his airfield well, and is trained to prepare for aircraft takeoffs and landings often on very short notice, and sometimes under adverse conditions, and oversee the safe operation of military aircraft through the na- tional and international airspace systems,” said Watts.
Watts said that Shoemaker’s duties also include inspecting the airfield, planning and coordinating airfield construction projects, and ensuring a safe operating en- vironment for personnel and aircraft operation.
“Scott’s outstanding performance and positive attitude have benefited not only his work center, but the entire 437th Operations Support Squadron, as well as his deployed unit! These types of accomplishments and notable contributions I feel occur weekly from Scott, and he is the very best choice for this warrior of the week award. Scott is very deserving of this award,” said Watts.
Shoemaker is stationed at Joint Base Charleston, SC. He arrived to Charleston August 2016, serving in the 437th Operation Support Squadron, Airfield Management Operations section.
Shoemaker is currently deployed for a sixth month period at Al Dhafra Air Base, United Arab Emirates, his deployment period is September 2018 thru March/April 2019.
