Marx appointed director of Capital Region Sponsor-AScholar

ALBANY, N.Y. >> Capital Region Sponsor-A- Scholar has a new leader with the appointmen­t of Laura Marx.

Marx was recently announced as the organizati­on’s new executive director. She has more than 23 years of experience in nonprofit management and fundraisin­g. Most recently, she served as the area director of Capital Region and South Central NY Chapters of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“On behalf of the entire board of directors, I am pleased to welcome Laura to Capital Region Sponsor-A- Scholar as we work to deepen the support we offer our Scholars throughout both high school and college,” said F. Michael Zovistoski, chair of the

board for Capital Region Sponsor-A- Scholar, in a press release. “I know that her experience and background will help us address our strategic goals of enhancing college preparatio­n, intensifyi­ng career awareness programs and increasing support and guidance for college Scholars.”

Capital Region SponsorA-Scholar works with promising, underserve­d high school and college students from Albany, Schenect-

ady, and Troy. Sponsor-AScholar provides college preparatio­n for selected students through tutoring, mentoring and financial assistance. Once in college, scholars receive a stipend that helps to defray the cost of their education. SponsorA- Scholar’s students currently achieve a 100 percent college acceptance rate and a 69 percent college graduation rate. More than 250 of its scholars have earned college degrees.
