TROY, N.Y. » New local business salon:troy is celebrating its downtown debut later this month with a grand opening event.

Following its soft opening last month, salon:troy will host its official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 29 at its location at 29 Third St. in downtown Troy. After, the salon will be open during Troy Night Out, with festivities including a 6 p.m. champagne toast, cupcakes and a raffle to win Oribe hair care products.

Founded by owner and hair stylist Monica Brady, salon:troy provides hair cuts, color and special occasion styling services for men, women, and children.

This is Brady’s first salon of her own, but she’s been in the hair industry for more than 30 years.

A native of Ireland, Brady’s career in cosmetology is what brought her to America. Through her background with the Dublin-based David Marshall’s School of Hairdressing, Brady discovered an opportunity to work with Vidal Sassoon in New York City. Then, she took an education position with Bumble and bumble, before landing her current role as an educator with Oribe, an award-winning professional hair care product company.

Oribe is a high- quality luxury line, and it’s used by lots of celebrities. “It’s phenomenal stuff,” Brady said. “The engineering that goes behind these products incredible.”

In addition to being an Oribe educator, Brady is now following her longtime dream of opening her own salon, which exclusively carries and uses the Oribe products.

At salon:troy, Brady aims to incorporate all that she’s learned throughout her years in the industry and create her own space where she can serve clients in a fun, laid-back atmosphere.

Now a North Greenbush resident, Brady said she’s always enjoyed downtown Troy. “This just seemed like a great spot to bring my boutique hair salon to,” she said. “I’m excited to be here.”

Since opening in early February, Brady said she’s happy about the response salon:troy is getting and looks forward to growing the business in the future.

Brady currently provides all of the services herself, but is looking for other stylists with a similar passion for hair styling to join the salon:troy team.

In this new endeavor, Brady’s focus is offering high- quality haircuts that feel different, look different and last longer, she said, all with creativity and trendy vibes.

Looking ahead, Brady’s goal is for salon:troy to be part of the community. The business is forming a partnership with the downtown Troy-based nonprofit YWCA of the Greater Capital Region to offer services to its residents.

The salon is open Tuesday through Saturday, with later evening hours on Thursdays and Fridays. Tuesday hours may vary according to Brady’s Oribe travel schedule.
