HVCC announces upcoming student exhibition­s

TROY, N.Y. » Hudson Valley Community College’s Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media recently announced two, yearend student exhibition­s.

The Annual Juried Fine Arts Student Exhibition and the Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting Exhibition will be on view in the college’s Teaching Gallery from April 5-13.

An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5 in the Teaching Gallery, located on the ground floor of the Administra­tion Building on the Troy campus.

In addition to department awards, officials noted that four juried awards underwritt­en by Arlene’s Artist Materials in Albany will be announced.

The reception and exhibition­s are open to the public, free of charge. Gallery hours are 10- 4 Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; 1-7 Wednesday; noon- 4 Saturday, and closed Sunday and Monday.

Officials said the juried exhibition includes works by students pursuing an Associate in Science degree in Fine Arts, who submit work from the current and past two semesters. Guest juror is Scott Foster, associate professor of Studio Art and chairman of the Creative Arts Department at Siena College. A painter and draughtsma­n, Foster has exhibited nationally and created commission­ed works for

the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish of Schenectad­y, the Musicians of Ma’alwyck, and the Terra Nova Church of Troy, among others.

Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting is two semesters of guided study for students who have completed founda-

tion art courses and wish to pursue their own body of work. Jennie Buckley, Katriona Howell, Derek Limani, Andrea Lowry, Mikayla M., John McCabe, Hannah Meacham, @_collin_ moore, Renee M Piazza, Jan Samuel Redman, Makayla Sink-Fagan and Hannah Marie Tremblay are featured in the exhibit, titled “Within a Saturated Environmen­t.”

planned, coordinate­d and installed by students enrolled in Gallery Practicum – Exhibition Planning and Preparatio­n at Hudson Valley. Associate Professor Tara Fracalossi is gallery director.

The Teaching Gallery is supported by the Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media Department, Cultural Affairs Program and the college’s Foundation.
