Annual LCSD Family Fun Run/Walk set for May 18
LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. » The Lansingburgh Central School District’s (LCSD) Family Fun Run/ Walk is set for May 18, 2019, at 9:30 a.m.
Officials said that registration for the event starts at 8 a.m. in the back parking lot of Lansingburgh High School, which will also be the starting line for the race. The Fun Run is an annual community event organized by the Lansingburgh CSD Wellness Committee.
Registration is free and participants can sign up on Runsignup.com or on the Lansingburgh website (Lansingburgh.org).
Leading up to the Fun Run, the Wellness Committee is holding an athletic shoe drive fundraiser to raise money for Senior Scholarships. The committee earns funds based on the total pairs of gently worn, used or new-sneakers collected. The District will apply these funds to their Senior Scholarships program benefitting students.
The district is collaborating with GotSneakers, a shoe recycling organization that issues funds in compensation for collected sneakers.
GotSneakers redistributes the sneakers through their network of small business partners throughout Haiti, Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Ukraine, according to a news release.
All are welcome to donate sneakers at any Lansingburgh School Health Office or on the day of the Fun Run.
“We are so excited about the sneaker drive,” said Gina Fusco, member of the LCSD Wellness Committee. “We know that most people have extra sneakers in their closets they would like to donate rather than throw away. By doing so, we raise money for Senior Scholarships, help the environment, and have the chance to help individuals and families in developing countries who are in desperate need of economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone!”
