UAlbany set to host Premier Lacrosse League games

ALBANY, N.Y. » The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced Monday, April 22, that the University at Albany’s Tom & Mary Casey Stadium will host regularsea­son games on August 24 and 25 this summer.

PLL action will commence with a single showdown on Saturday, August 24, and two games on Sunday, August 25. Albany becomes the 12th location revealed by the PLL following announceme­nts of Boston, New York, Chicago, Baltimore, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, San Jose, Columbus, Denver, and Hamilton. PLL action in Albany will also see former University at Albany student-athletes and current PLL stars Ty Thompson, Kyle McClancy, Connor Fields, Blaze Riorden, Joe Resetarits, Miles Thompson, Brett Queener, and Troy Reh return to their alma mater.

“Albany has always been a hotbed of lacrosse and now local passion is fueled by the rise of University at Albany’s powerhouse Men’s Lacrosse team,” says PLL Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer Paul Rabil. “The capital is ready and we are thrilled to partner with UAlbany to bring the action of top notch profession­al lacrosse to an energized sports public. This summer, the world’s best lacrosse players will descend on the city for three fiercely competitiv­e games that will shape the PLL playoff picture.”

UAlbany is home to one of the top programs in Division I lacrosse. The Great Danes, nine-time America East champions, have been to the NCAA Tournament quarterfin­als three times and in 2018 reached NCAA Championsh­ip Weekend for the first time. UAlbany also boasts one of the most rabid fan bases in the country and has ranked in the top 10 nationally in home attendance each of the past two seasons.
