ROTTERDAM, N.Y. » It was the first for their coach, two for some of the underclassmen, but a three-peat for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake girls lacrosse squad, defeating Averill Park 13- 5 Wednesday afternoon at Mohonasen High School.

“I’m thrilled for them, I thought we got better as the year went on and we tightened up some things,” Burnt Hills Coach John Battaglino said. “I was real proud of them today, they made a lot of good reads and some things we worked on all year, they really grew up. A lot of young kids that did a bunch of scoring today.”

Spartan eighth-grader MK Lescault with three goals and three assists in her second straight Section II final.

“I’m very proud of us and I think that we really deserved it and we worked hard as a team to get it,” MK Lescault said. “I definitely didn’t feel as nervous and my team helped me just win and get out there.”

The aggressiveness of the Spartans led to the early lead and then the final 13-5 score.

“When we did our bomber play when we just came out I think I had more space to go to the goal and look for more open players.”

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake sophomore Isabel Adams with five goals and two assists in the win.

“It feels great to accomplish

this, our team has worked really hard, we’ve definitely gotten better throughout the whole season, communicating, moving the ball around,” Isabel Adams said. “At the beginning we were a little tense, we were a little worried, we definitely got out our jitters and played how we normally played.”

The Warriors were led by junior Alex VanDerKar and senior Anita Reitano with two goals each. Sophomore Julia Foster had a goal and an assist.

Like other sectional champions the Spartans return to practice before the New York State Public High School Athletic Association regional next week.

“We’ve got a week to try some new things,” Battaglino said. “To me this if the fun part because I love practice. Now we can practice through some things and actually spend some time to develop some kids for the next week and for next year.”

Burnt Hills will return to Mohonasen on June 1 to face the winner of Section I/Section 9 sub-regional 7 p.m. May 31.
