UAlbany women’s soccer drops Cornell, 1-0

University at Albany junior Hailey Summers scored her first career goal Sunday to propel the Great Danes to victory over the visiting Cornell Big Red 1-0. Summers’ goal in the 88th minute came on a broken play in the Cornell penalty box, where the defender was able to find the ball and rip a shot into the back of the net to break the scoreless tie. Cornell had entered the game undefeated, winning each of their first four games of the season. Red-shirt junior Meghan Cavanaugh (Clifton Park/ Shenendeho­wa H.S.) had two shots for the Great Danes in the win Sunday. She has started in five games this year, recording a goal and two assists. Junior forward/defender Kendra Harbinger (Clifton Park/ Shenendeho­wa H.S.) also started for UAlbany, the sixthtime this fall. Also on the Great Danes roster is sophomore forward/defender Amanda O’Brien (Clifton Park/Shenendeho­wa H.S.) who has appeared on one game this season for UAlbany.

ST. ROSE PLAYS TO 1-1 TIE WITH SAINT ANSELM

ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose, ranked #16in the first regular-season United Soccer Coaches National Poll, outshot Saint Anselm 3-1in the two extra sessions only to settle for a 1-1draw in this afternoon’s Northeast-10Conferen­ce opener for both squads. Freshman forward Olivia Boucher ran he goal scoring streak to three matches and junior keeper Marika Laurendeau recorded six saves for the Golden Knights (3-0-1 0-0-1NE10). To date senior forward/midfielder Morgan Burchardt (Burnt Hills/Burnt HillsBalls­ton Lake H.S.) has appeared and started in one game for the Golden Knights, earning an assist. Freshman midfielder/back Loryn Donvito (Colonie/South Colonie H.S.) has started and appeared on one game this year for the College of St. Rose.
